where the idea came from
Most of her films are still under copyright. What is free to use covers her first ten years as a star, 1953 to 1963. It is mostly black and white, and the colour only comes near the end. That gave the song its shape: someone remembering her films in black and white, until one line turns everything to colour.
how it came together

Public-domain film only. I searched the Internet Archive for everything with her in it and kept only items marked Public Domain Mark: three trailers (Roman Holiday, Love in the Afternoon, The Unforgiven), Charade and a 1963 newsreel of its premiere. Full uploads of Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and others were there too, but without that mark, so they stayed out.

44 silent clips. Each clip was checked frame by frame and logged by what is on screen and its mood. Charade plays without sound because its score is still under copyright. So is Moon River, the song most tied to her, so the new song only borrows its mood.

Story before song. The lyrics go from an empty cinema to the projector starting, then Rome on a Vespa, a Paris afternoon on the water, and finally colour.

The song. Made in Suno as a 1960s film waltz at 84 beats a minute, with strings, harmonica, nylon guitar, celesta and a key change for the last chorus. Of four takes, two English and two Japanese, the English one made it.

Edited with code, not a timeline. The 36 shots are listed in one file, and a script runs ffmpeg to build the video: half-second dissolves, light film grain on the black and white, and a hard cut to colour at 3:06.8, on the line itself. Subtitles are timed from Suno’s word timings.

Unlisted first. YouTube’s copyright check came back clean, then it went public.
