why I made it

In May 2025 I went back to class as a mid-career learner. I joined the first intake of a three-month SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) on automation and AI: six modules, most of them in one classroom on Level 4 of Block W6.

On day one I clicked the wrong thing twice in Power Query and nodded as if I understood. Then came Power BI, KNIME, machine learning without code, prompt engineering, and a Telegram chatbot that broke, and broke again, before it finally answered me.

What got me through was people. Lecturers stayed back after class to show me one more time. The admin team kept the paperwork moving so I could keep learning. My workgroup laughed through the hard parts with me.

I use what I learned every week now: dashboards that refresh before I reach my desk, forms that find their own way to sign-off, and at night the songs and films on this site.

If you’re standing at that door now, feeling worn, or too late, or out of date: you’re not discarded, and you won’t be alone. There’s a room of people learning, and someone will show you one more time.

lyrics

verse 1

May of twenty-five, a laptop and a name tag

Years inside an office, now I’m starting from the back

The lift to Level Four, my coffee going cold

Thirty tabs of data and I didn’t know what to hold

They said “open Power Query”, I clicked the wrong thing twice

Rows and rows of mess, I just nodded, acting nice

At night the group chat buzzing, “see you all at nine”

I wondered if this door was ever meant to be mine

pre-chorus

But somebody stayed back after class

Showed me one more time, and never made me feel slow

chorus

Block W6, the door swung wide

I walked in a learner, found a road inside

Prompt by prompt and line by line

I learned to ask the right question this time

Republic Poly, you lit the first light

You opened a door, I’m still walking through tonight

verse 2

Power BI on Monday, KNIME on a Thursday screen

A Titanic decision tree, a model with no code to clean

Built a bot on Telegram that answered back at three

Broke it, fixed it, broke it, then it finally talked to me

pre-chorus 2

Every lesson was a stone

And the team behind the scenes made sure I wasn’t alone

Chorus repeats.

bridge

There were days the code said no

Days I almost let it go

But they kept on saying “try it, run it, see”

One more run, and it ran for me

verse 3

Spring came round, a letter, a staff pass with my name

Same campus, other side now, but I’m learning just the same

The dashboards wake at seven, before I reach my desk

Forms find their way to sign-off, the flows can do the rest

At night I make the music, cut the films for those I love

Each week I push a little further, still not near enough

bridge 2 · to the next learner

If you’re standing at that door, feeling worn and feeling down

Like the world moved on without you, like there’s no place left in town

You are not discarded, you are not obsolete

You’re a learner with a new road waiting at your feet

You don’t have to carry all that weight alone so long

There’s a room of people learning, and a place where you belong

Don’t doubt the step you’re taking, don’t give up on the climb

There are people there to catch you, they’ll show you one more time

final chorus

Block W6, the door’s still wide

I came in a learner, now I work inside

Work by day and songs by night

Every limit’s one more line I learn to write

Republic Poly, you lit the first light

You opened a door, I’m still walking through tonight

outro

Just a learner in a room on Level Four

Now I’m holding open that door

thank you

how it was made

The song follows the year in order: lost on day one, helped by people, a role on the same campus, then a word to whoever comes next. Every lecturer is named in the credits, not in the lyrics.

the plan
Claude: the story shape, the lyrics with me, the course and trainer list from my own course files, and the checks
the song
Suno (v6): starts with piano and a quiet voice, builds to a full band and a key lift in the last chorus
the pictures
Google Flow (Nano Banana Pro): one character sheet so the learner looks the same in every shot, then 12 storybook scenes; the W6 opening is a watercolour of a campus view from RP360
the video
a short Python script with ffmpeg: slow camera moves, cross-fades, lyrics timed to the singing with Whisper on my Mac
